Chapter 14 - The Final Reckoning

The rain had finally cleared, leaving the city streets slick and glistening under the cold dawn light as the black armored SUV sped through the financial district toward Vance Global’s true corporate headquarters—a towering glass skyscraper whose towering spire pierced the morning clouds. Inside the vehicle, the atmosphere was thick with tension. Arthur sat quietly in the corner, staring out the window with a heavy heart, mourning the final, absolute corruption of his own bloodline.
The SUV screeched to a halt outside the gleaming glass entrance of the skyscraper. Before Marcus could even open the door from the outside, the vehicle's rear hatch swung open automatically. A dozen federal agents and armed security operatives stood at attention, creating a clear, unimpeded pathway straight through the revolving doors.
Maya stepped out onto the marble pavement, her bare feet making silent contact with the ground. She wore the same simple cotton dress, unstained and unyielding, as she strode purposefully into the grand lobby. There were no onlookers, no reporters, no red carpets—just the pure, echoing silence of an empire awaiting its final judgment.
The private elevator whisked them up to the penthouse executive suite in a matter of seconds. When the heavy glass doors slid open, they stepped out onto a sprawling floor of polished white marble that mirrored the very lobby where this entire reckoning had begun.
Julian Vance stood by the floor-to-ceiling glass windows overlooking the sprawling city, his tailored suit rumpled, his hands shoved deep into his pockets as he stared out at his crumbling empire. Hearing the soft footsteps behind him, he turned around slowly, a bitter, defeated sneer twisting his features.
"You really don't know when to quit, do you?" Julian muttered, his voice echoing in the vast, empty penthouse. "You think destroying the accounts changes anything? The system is built on greed, Maya. You can't change human nature."
"I'm not trying to change human nature, Julian," Maya replied, stopping just a few feet away from him, her gaze piercing and absolute. "I'm simply enforcing consequences."
Julian scoffed, taking a step forward, but stopped dead in his tracks as the elevator doors chimed a second time. Stepping out onto the marble floor weren't federal agents this time, but a long line of every single artisan, tailor, and clerk Victoria had fired over the past decade—led by Marcus and flanked by federal prosecutors holding finalized asset forfeiture warrants.
