Chapter 12 - The Hostile Takeover

The sudden eruption of movement shattered the fragile calm of the morning. Before Julian could even reach for his phone to alert the tactical commander, four armed mercenaries in unmarked black tactical gear fanned out from the portico, their weapons leveled directly at his chest. Their movements were terrifyingly professional, devoid of the sloppy panic Marcus’s men had shown earlier. These were military-grade operators, hired and paid for by someone with limitless resources.

Victor Vance stepped out of the back of the town car, his Italian wool suit catching the morning light as he smoothed down his lapels with practiced elegance. He walked slowly up the marble steps, stopping just a few feet away from Julian. The silver streaks in his hair seemed to gleam like steel against his dark, calculating eyes.

"You always were entirely too arrogant, Julian," Victor said softly, his voice carrying easily over the idling engine of the town car. "You thought that by locking down the domestic servers and freezing Helena’s local accounts, you had won the war. You never stopped to consider that Helena was just a pawn sacrificed to draw your security forces away from the main treasury vault."

Julian didn't flinch. He stood entirely rigid, his black tuxedo jacket open, the torn white rose still clinging to his lapel like a badge of defiance. He looked past Victor toward the open front doors where the federal agents were being held at gunpoint by the mercenaries.

"You're violating federal jurisdiction, Victor," Julian said, his voice a calm, lethal counterpoint to the chaos surrounding them. "The D.A. has a federal warrant for anyone linked to this corporate espionage ring. That includes you."

Victor laughed, a dry, mocking sound that lacked any real warmth. "Warrants require judges, Julian. And judges require time. Right now, my legal team is filing an emergency injunction in the federal district court of Delaware, claiming you are mentally unfit to manage Vance Logistics due to 'acute emotional distress' following your wife’s arrest."

Julian’s eyes narrowed. "That’s entirely fraudulent, and you know it."

"Fraudulent? Perhaps," Victor smiled coldly. "But it takes forty-eight hours for a medical board to review the claim. And in those forty-eight hours, the emergency board of directors—which I now control through proxy votes obtained via Helena’s shares—will vote to liquidate all overseas assets and merge Vance Logistics with my own private consortium."

Julian finally let out a slow, measured breath. He didn't look panicked; instead, a strange, terrifying calm settled over his features. He reached slowly into his pocket, not for a weapon, but for his smartphone, which was vibrating relentlessly against his palm.

"You think you bought the board, Victor?" Julian asked quietly.

Victor paused, his smile faltering just a fraction. "What are you talking about?"

Julian pulled the phone out, turning the screen outward so Victor could read the live financial ticker streaming across the display.

"I didn't let Helena steal our proprietary supply chain data," Julian whispered, tapping the screen to bring up a flashing red alert. "I fed her a corrupted version embedded with a live forensic tracker that just breached every single one of your offshore accounts in Zurich, Geneva, and the Caymans."

Victor’s face instantly drained of all color. He snatched the phone from Julian’s hand, his eyes scanning the data stream with mounting horror.

"That's... that's impossible," Victor choked out, his hands shaking violently as the reality of the trap set in.

"It’s not impossible," Julian said, stepping close enough to whisper directly into his uncle's ear. "It’s checkmate. And the federal marshals coming around the corner right now are here to escort you both to the same cell."

Victor spun around toward the driveway, only to find a blockade of federal armored vehicles sealing off the exit completely, their lights flashing a blinding warning as heavy footsteps closed in from behind.
