Chapter 11 - The Golden Share

Arthur reached into the inside pocket of his dark suit and pulled out a heavy, platinum-plated cryptographic keycard engraved with the Vance family crest. He held it out on the flat of his palm, the polished metal catching the light of the showroom chandeliers.

"Your grandfather created this key forty years ago," Arthur said quietly, his voice carrying the weight of family history. "When he incorporated the Vance Group, he ensured that no board of directors, no greedy relative, and no hostile takeover could ever strip the true bloodline of operational control. The golden share overrides any majority vote taken in my absence, provided the legal heir is present to claim it."

Maya stared at the platinum card, the reality of what her father was offering pressing down upon her shoulders. "Dad... I’ve spent the last five years in London avoiding the corporate world. I wanted my own life, my own path. Are you sure you want to hand me the keys to this war?"

"I am not handing you a war, Maya," Arthur replied, his dark eyes fierce and unwavering. "I am handing you a responsibility. The people who built this company—the ones who sewed those dresses, managed those warehouses, and trusted our name—deserve better than thieves and cowards. You have the intellect, you have the backbone, and today, you proved you have the courage."

Maya took a slow breath, looking from her father’s weathered face to the live monitor where her uncle Thomas was smiling smugly as the board members began raising their hands to vote. She reached out and took the platinum keycard from her father's hand. The metal was cold against her skin, but as she closed her fingers around it, a surge of absolute clarity settled into her chest.

"Let’s go crash a boardroom meeting," Maya said, a fierce, confident smile touching her lips.

Arthur’s laughter was deep and booming, echoing off the marble floor. He turned to the massive bodyguard standing nearby. "Marcus, warm up the town car. We have an appointment downtown."

"Right away, Chairman," Marcus replied, his posture snapping into razor-sharp readiness.

As they walked toward the glass double doors, leaving the ruined boutique behind them, Mr. Hayes called out from the desk, holding up the heavy leather ledger. "Ms. Vance! Don't forget your evidence!"

Maya turned back for a split second, pointing at the auditor with a wink. "Keep that safe, Mr. Hayes. We’re going to need it as evidence when we fire half the executive board."
