Chapter 1 - The Fall and the Fury

The cold marble floor of the high-end boutique pressed hard against Maya’s back as she struggled to catch her breath. The impact had knocked the wind completely out of her lungs, leaving her disoriented beneath the blinding crystal chandeliers. Above her stood Elena Vance, the store owner, a woman whose immaculate black blazer and matching skirt suit radiated absolute authority. Elena’s high ponytail pulled her features taut, emphasizing the deep, unforgiving scowl carved into her face. Her deep red lipstick parted in a snarl as she looked down at Maya with unadulterated contempt, treating the young woman in the simple grey dress as if she were a speck of dirt tracked in from the rainy street.

"Stay away from my store, trash!" Elena shouted, her voice echoing sharply off the polished glass double doors and high ceilings.

Maya winced, her chest heaving as she tried to sit up, but the sudden humiliation rooted her to the spot.

"I only dropped my notebook," Maya whispered, her voice trembling slightly. "There is no need to humiliate me like this in front of everyone."

"I don't care what you dropped!" Elena snapped, stepping closer and crossing her arms tightly over her chest. "People like you do not belong in my establishment. You ruin the aesthetic. You ruin the exclusivity. Now get up and crawl back to whatever gutter you crawled out of before I have you physically removed."

Around them, wealthy onlookers dressed in exquisite evening wear gasped in horror. Several people pressed trembling hands to their mouths, torn between morbid fascination and profound shock at Elena’s overt cruelty. Whispers rippled through the boutique entrance like static electricity.

Before Maya could formulate a response, the heavy glass double doors swung open with a dramatic hiss. A massive bodyguard, clad in a tailored black suit, crisp black shirt, dark tie, and polished sunglasses, stepped into the lobby. His imposing frame commanded instant silence, his heavy footsteps echoing across the marble floor as he walked with mechanical precision straight toward Elena and the fallen girl.

The bodyguard stopped dead in his tracks right in front of Maya. He ignored Elena entirely, looking down at the young woman in the grey dress with sudden, reverent deference.

"Owner’s daughter, forgive our late arrival," the bodyguard rumbled, bowing his head deeply.

Elena’s face drained of color, her sneer freezing instantly into a mask of pure terror. She gasped, her eyes widening to impossible limits as her jaw dropped open in absolute disbelief.

"The... the daughter?" Elena stammered, her voice cracking as the terrifying truth of who she had just assaulted began to sink in.
