Chapter 6: The Secret Vault

Julian spent the next twelve hours in a state of quiet shock, reviewing the redacted police files Alvarez brought to the brownstone. Page after page revealed the rot at the core of the Vance Foundation: forged clinical trials, silenced whistleblowers, and shell companies designed to launder offshore kickbacks.

"She didn't just ruin our family," Julian said, his voice hollow as he stared at a document bearing his father’s forged signature. "She ruined hundreds of families."

"There’s more," Clara said, pulling a worn, handwritten leather notebook from her bag. "Your father knew what was happening before he died. He hid the master ledger in a safety deposit box in Boston, registered under your childhood nickname."

Julian looked at the notebook. It was his father's distinct, sloping handwriting. Arthur Vance had realized too late that the empire he built had turned into a monster, driven by his wife's unquenchable thirst for power.

"He tried to stop her," Julian whispered. "He left this for me?"

"He knew Victoria would never let him walk away," Clara explained gently. "He wanted you to have the truth so you could dismantle the empire the right way—not through scandal, but through restitution."

Julian looked from the notebook to Clara. The initial wave of raw anger had begun to recede, leaving behind the sobering weight of moral responsibility.

"If this ledger goes public," Julian said, "the Vance name will be erased. The stock will plummet to zero. Everything my family owned will be liquidated."

"Wealth built on poisoned soil can never bear good fruit," Clara said quietly. "You have a chance to set them free, Julian. All of them."
