Chapter 12 - The High-Voltage Trap

A blinding flash of electric blue plasma tore through the night air, accompanied by a deafening crack that rattled the surrounding trees. The high-voltage surge raced instantly along the metal frame of the estate's security gate, slamming into the three tactical operatives with devastating, terrifying force.

The men dropped their breaching equipment instantly, their bodies convulsing violently before they collapsed onto the gravel road in a tangled, smoking heap. The remaining operatives scattered into the surrounding tree line, shouting frantic commands through their tactical communicators as chaos erupted within their ranks.

Evelyn stepped out from the deep shadows of the boxwood hedge, her posture entirely composed, her black fitted dress absorbing the flickering light of the sparking security grid. She walked deliberately toward the downed gatehouse, her heels crunching softly against the gravel.

One of the masked operatives, recovering his footing behind a thick oak tree, raised a suppressed tactical rifle and aimed directly at her chest.

"Don't move another inch, Mrs. Vance!" the operative barked through his comms-unit filter, his voice disguised by digital modulation.

Evelyn didn't stop. She didn't raise her hands, nor did she flinch. She simply stopped three paces from the barrel of the gun, her dark eyes locking onto the operative’s visor with absolute, unblinking authority.

"Go ahead and pull the trigger," Evelyn said, her voice cutting through the hiss of the sparking electrical grid with chilling calm. "My death triggers an automated dead-man switch that transmits the decryption keys for every hidden account Victor Sterling owns directly to the Department of Justice and Interpol. You won't just fail your mission; you'll be hunted across every continent before sunrise."
