Chapter 10 - The Reckoning In The Glass Tower

Before Richard’s fingers could close around the phone, Helen stepped between them with astonishing speed, planting her palm flat against his chest and shoving him backward onto the mahogany desk. Richard stumbled, knocking over a crystal lamp that shattered loudly against the floor.
“Don’t you ever touch her again,” Helen said, her voice dropping into a chilling, absolute authority.
Richard caught his balance, panting heavily as he glared at the two women. The polished facade of the successful philanthropist had completely vanished, leaving behind the desperate, cornered criminal he had always been.
“You’re pathetic,” Richard spat, wiping a bead of sweat from his forehead. “You think a few audio clips and an old ledger will destroy Vance Global? The board of directors answers to me. The lawyers answer to me. By morning, you’ll be the ones facing federal charges for breaking and entering!”
Martha stepped forward from the shadows, holding up a heavy, leather-bound folder that she had retrieved from the credenza behind Richard’s desk.
“The board doesn’t answer to you anymore, Richard,” Martha said calmly, flipping open the folder to reveal a series of signed proxy agreements. “When you transferred the primary shares into your private offshore trust last month, you legally breached your fiduciary duty to the minority stakeholders. We spent the last year quietly acquiring those shares through a blind trust.”
Richard froze, his eyes widening in disbelief as he stared at the documents in Martha’s hands.
“That’s… that’s impossible,” Richard stammered, grabbing the edge of the desk for support. “No one knew about the offshore trust except the Swiss bank!”
Clara stepped closer, her voice ice-cold.
“You underestimate the people you stepped on to get to the top, Uncle Richard. My father may have been too trusting, and Helen may have been silenced, but their legacy didn’t die tonight.”
Richard looked around the empty penthouse, realizing with terrifying clarity that his empire had completely crumbled around him. He slumped down into his executive leather chair, burying his face in his hands as the industrial shredder hummed quietly in the background.
Just as the silence settled over the room, the private elevator chime rang out with a loud, cheerful ding.

The heavy metal gates slid open, revealing three uniformed federal agents and two local police officers stepping out onto the penthouse floor, their badges gleaming under the bright office lights.
