Chapter 1 - The Shattered Facade

The grand ballroom of the St. Clair Hotel echoed with the heavy silence of shattered illusions. White cascading orchids and crystal chandeliers overhead glittered under warm spotlights, framing what was supposed to be the most immaculate day of Daniel and Victoria’s lives. Instead, the pristine atmosphere fractured entirely when seven-year-old Sophia wept against Daniel’s chest, her small fingers clutching the lapels of his immaculate black tuxedo. Victoria stood merely feet away, her white lace wedding gown pooling around her satin heels, a pearl necklace resting gracefully against her collarbone.
“Daddy, please don't marry her, please don't do it!” Sophia sobbed, her whole frame trembling beneath her white dress and hair bow.
Daniel tightened his hold, looking down at his daughter with furrowed brows.
“Sophi, what's wrong? What happened?” Daniel asked, his voice laced with sudden anxiety as he brushed a stray curl from her damp forehead.
Victoria forced a practiced, warm smile, stepping closer and extending a manicured hand toward Daniel’s arm in a soothing gesture.
“Daniel, thank God. She's just overwhelmed by the wedding, darling,” Victoria said, her tone dripping with manufactured serenity.
Sophia pulled back, her tear-streaked face hardening with unexpected defiance as she thrust a small, trembling hand toward the white wicker flower basket resting on a nearby mahogany pedestal.
“She was hiding something in her basket! A second phone!” Sophia shouted, the accusation slicing through the ambient noise of the stunned crowd.
Victoria gasped in audible shock, her meticulously painted face instantly draining of color. Her eyes widened with frantic panic, the carefully constructed facade of the graceful bride completely shattering into jagged pieces. Daniel stared at his bride, the warmth draining from his gaze as the heavy silence returned, pregnant with betrayal.
“What is she talking about, Victoria?” Daniel demanded coldly.

Before Victoria could form a lie, the hidden phone inside the basket vibrated violently, ringing out a sharp, unfamiliar melody.
