Chapter 11

The quarterly board meeting of Vance Global Industries was scheduled for Thursday morning in the grand executive auditorium on the fiftieth floor. The room was grand, featuring a horseshoe-shaped mahogany table, leather executive seating, and tiered rows for attending vice presidents and senior stakeholders. At the center of the main table sat the executive board members, flanked by legal counsel and external financial auditors.
Victoria Vance sat proudly in the front row of the observer section, accompanied by her venture capitalist associate, a sharp-featured man named Harrison Vance who happened to be a distant cousin of Julian. Harrison had spent the past week lobbying board members behind the scenes, claiming that Julian’s division was plagued by financial negligence and demanding a formal forensic investigation.
Julian entered the auditorium precisely at nine o'clock, walking with absolute poise and quiet authority. Eleanor walked immediately beside him, wearing a tailored navy pantsuit that commanded respect and projected unshakable confidence. As they took their seats at the head of the table, whispers rippled through the observer rows.
The CEO, an aging industry veteran named Arthur Vance, cleared his throat and called the meeting to order. "We have an extraordinary agenda item today requested by the external audit committee regarding fiscal compliance within Mr. Vance’s division. Mr. Harrison Vance, you have the floor."
Harrison stood up, smoothing his tie with practiced arrogance. "Thank you, Mr. Chairman. Recent internal reports suggest significant financial irregularities and undocumented discretionary spending within the regional marketing sector during the past two quarters. We believe a full, independent forensic audit is necessary to protect the interests of our investors."
Julian did not flinch. He waited for Harrison to finish speaking, then calmly stood up, buttoning his suit jacket. "The division welcomes absolute transparency," Julian began, his deep, resonant voice carrying effortlessly across the large auditorium. "In fact, rather than waiting for a protracted, disruptive external audit, my team has already completed a comprehensive forensic review of every single transaction in question."
Julian gestured to Eleanor, who stood up beside him and connected her tablet to the auditorium's main digital display screens. Instantly, crystal-clear financial breakdowns, verified receipts, and meticulously cross-referenced ledgers filled the massive monitors.
"As you can see from Exhibit A," Eleanor began, her voice steady, clear, and utterly professional, "every single line item cited in the preliminary inquiry was thoroughly accounted for and legally processed. The alleged irregularities stem entirely from unverified draft documents left behind by a former employee—Ms. Chloe Davenport—whose employment was terminated for cause due to workplace harassment."

Victoria gasped audibly from the front row, her face turning pale as the entire board examined the definitive proof on the screens.
Julian stepped back in, locking eyes with Harrison and the bewildered board members. "Furthermore, our legal counsel has filed a formal motion for frivolous regulatory interference against the external parties attempting to manufacture these discrepancies. We have nothing to hide, and we will not tolerate coordinated attempts to undermine this firm's integrity."
