Chapter 11: The Digital Trail

The screen of the small laptop Connor had pulled from his duffel bag flickered to life inside the cramped confines of the bank’s private viewing booth. He plugged the flash drive found in the safety deposit box into the USB port, watching as a single encrypted folder appeared on the desktop. Using the numerical code written at the bottom of his father's handwritten letter, Connor entered the password.
A series of high-definition video files and scanned banking records populated the screen, detailing every fraudulent transfer Helen had executed over the past ten years. There were recordings of board meetings, audio transcripts of conversations between Helen and Marcus orchestrating fake asset liquidations, and clear proof that the "Notice of House Deed" filed yesterday was entirely fabricated.
"Look at this timestamp," Clara pointed a finger at the screen, her voice shaking with righteous anger. "She transferred the title into her own name three days after your father passed away, while we were still planning the funeral."
Connor gripped the edge of the wooden table, his knuckles turning white. The emotional weight of his father’s betrayal by the woman who had pretended to mourn alongside them was staggering. But there was no time for grief; the evidence was right here, indisputable and complete.

"We take this straight to the downtown precinct," Connor said, closing the laptop and sliding it back into his bag alongside the original documents. "Marcus and Helen are going to run out of legal loopholes very quickly."
They packed the safety deposit box contents into their bags, thanked the teller at the front desk, and stepped back out into the bright morning sunlight. But as they reached their parked sedan, a black town car pulled up directly behind them, blocking their exit completely.
