Chapter 4 - The Unraveling Truth

Stripped of the traditional silhouette, Clara stood in a sleek, ivory slip dress that hugged her frame, looking less like a traditional blushing bride and more like a prosecutor stepping up to deliver a closing argument. The documents remained securely pinned to the inner bodice, visible to anyone willing to look closely. The data screen behind the altar suddenly shifted, displaying a public ledger of shell companies owned by Julian and his mother.

"For three years," Clara began, her voice echoing off the vaulted ceiling, "I believed I was running an independent architectural firm. I poured my soul, my savings, and my late father's inheritance into designing sustainable housing projects for communities in need."

Julian took a step toward her, desperation making his voice crack. "Clara, stop this madness. You're ruining our lives over a misunderstanding in the tax code."

"A tax code misunderstanding?" Clara laughed, a short, humorless sound. "Is that what you call routing forty million dollars of public grant money through offshore accounts in the Caymans? You didn't just steal from the investors, Julian. You stole from families who trusted us to build their homes."

Helen gripped her temples, her breathing turning shallow and fast. "She's unstable! Someone escort her out of here! This is a private ceremony!"

None of the security guards moved. They had spent the last twenty minutes receiving automated legal briefs on their company-issued tablets detailing Julian’s impending indictment. Marcus, the head of security, simply crossed his arms and looked away, refusing to protect a man who had lied to his entire security detail about the source of their payroll.

Chloe looked at her brother with absolute betrayal in her eyes. "You lied to me about Dad's trust. You lied to all of us. You bought this entire lifestyle with stolen money."

Julian turned on his sister, his temper finally flaring past the breaking point. "Shut up, Chloe! You enjoyed the penthouse, didn't you? You didn't care where the tuition money came from when you were studying abroad!"

The admission hung in the tense cathedral air like poison. The guests gasped, and several prominent local politicians seated near the front stood up and quietly walked toward the exit, eager to distance themselves from the unfolding scandal before reporters arrived.

Clara watched Julian self-destruct with cold detachment. She reached into the bodice of her dress, unclipped the topmost file, and held it up for the remaining cameras to see.
