Chapter 2 - The Hidden Dossier

The fabric of Clara’s wedding dress parted just enough to expose a thick sheaf of laminated documents secured directly to the interior lining. These were not bridal accessories or sentimental mementos. They were financial audit reports, bank routing numbers, and signed affidavits bearing Julian’s signature. The data screen behind them flickered for a brief second, hinting at a much larger network of corporate espionage and systemic fraud. Julian reached out, his hand clawing at the empty air between them, desperate to stop the unraveling spectacle.
"You're destroying everything we built," Julian hissed beneath his breath, stepping closer while trying to keep a forced, polite smile plastered across his face for the benefit of the bewildered guests.
Clara stepped back, keeping the dossier hidden from the wider audience while maintaining direct eye contact with the man she was supposed to marry in less than an hour. "We didn't build anything, Julian. You stole it. And you used my design firm as the laundering vehicle to do it."
Chloe leaned over to her mother, her voice trembling. "Mom, what is she talking about? What's on those papers?"
Helen remained frozen, her hands gripping the wooden pew in front of her until her knuckles turned white. She refused to look at her daughter, keeping her gaze locked entirely on Clara’s unyielding posture. "It's nothing," Helen lied, though her voice lacked any conviction. "It's just pre-wedding stress. Clara is having a breakdown."
"A breakdown?" Clara's voice rose just enough to carry across the first three rows of seated executives and family members. "Is that what you call corporate embezzlement, Helen? Or do you prefer the term asset stripping?"
The murmur among the guests grew louder, turning into a low, uncomfortable hum. Several high-profile investors sitting near the back shifted in their seats, checking their phones as automated news alerts began to ping across their screens. Julian’s face flushed a deep, angry crimson. He realized that the quiet life he had planned was slipping away through the fabric of a designer gown.

Clara reached back again, her fingers unhooking the top clasp of the inner corset, threatening to let the entire structure of the dress fall away to reveal the absolute, undeniable proof to the entire room.
