Chapter 3 - Fractured Loyalties

Julian lunged forward, grabbing Clara’s wrist to stop her from unhooking the final layer of the corset. His grip was tight, bordering on painful, but Clara didn't flinch. She simply stared down at his hand until he slowly, reluctantly loosened his fingers, realizing that every eye in the cathedral was recording his aggression. The veneer of the charming, successful tech entrepreneur was cracking in real time.
"Let go of me, Julian," Clara said quietly, her voice carrying an authority that commanded absolute silence. "Unless you want me to read the wire transfer logs out loud to your primary investors right now."
Julian dropped his hand as if he had been burned. He glanced frantically toward the back of the hall where his lead security consultant, Marcus, stood near the double doors. Marcus gave an imperceptible shake of his head. There was no stopping this. The digital files were already synced to an external server, ready to drop if Clara’s heartbeat monitor or manual override signal stopped.
Helen rushed up the carpeted steps of the altar, her high heels clicking sharply against the stone floor. She placed a manicured hand on Clara’s arm, her expression shifting from panic to a desperate, pleading mask of maternal concern. "Clara, darling, let's go into the vestry. We can talk about this like family. Whatever grievances you have with the company accounts, we can settle them quietly."
"Quietly?" Clara pulled her arm away with clinical precision. "Just like you settled the pension fund collapse last quarter? Just like you silenced the whistleblower who tried to warn the board?"
Chloe finally approached the altar, her gold silk dress rustling as she stepped between her brother and the bride. Tears welled in Chloe’s eyes, not from sorrow, but from a terrifying realization. "Julian... did you use Dad's medical trust to fund the startup?"
Julian refused to meet his sister's eyes. He stared stubbornly at the polished floorboards. That silence was all the confirmation Chloe needed. She stumbled backward, her hand flying to her mouth.

The wedding guests began to murmur in earnest now. Flash photography from hidden smartphones clicked in the dim lighting. Clara turned her back on the altar, facing the gathered crowd directly. She reached down, unzipped the lower half of the gown, and let the heavy, beaded train pool at her feet like shattered glass.
