Chapter 8 - The Unexpected Ally

Maya burst from the closet like a sprinter out of the blocks, charging straight into Julian’s side with full momentum. Taken completely by surprise, Julian stumbled sideways, crashing heavily against the edge of the mahogany wardrobe before hitting the floor with a sharp grunt.
"Run, Elena! Run!" Maya screamed, scrambling backward as Julian thrashed on the floor, his face contorted in furious rage.
Elena didn't hesitate. Adrenaline surged through her veins, overriding the shock and terror. She grabbed the heavy silver candlestick holder from the vanity and swung it downward with all her strength, striking the ornate porcelain lamp on the side table. The lamp shattered into a thousand glittering pieces, its heavy electrical cord whipping through the air.
Julian scrambled to his feet with terrifying agility, his eyes bloodshot and wild. He ignored Maya entirely, locking his gaze onto Elena as he lunged forward like a striking animal. "You bitches won't make it out of this room!"
Before Julian could reach them, the heavy oak door of the bridal suite shook violently under a barrage of heavy blows from the outside.
"Open up in the name of the state police!" a booming voice echoed through the wood. "Julian Vance, put your hands where we can see them!"
Julian froze mid-stride, his expression shifting from murderous rage to absolute, paralyzing disbelief. He spun around toward the door just as a loud crash echoed through the hallway. The reinforced deadbolt splintered, and the heavy door flew wide open, slamming against the interior wall.
Framed in the doorway stood Detective Miller, his service weapon drawn and aimed directly at Julian’s chest, flanked by two uniformed officers in tactical gear.
"Don't move an inch, Julian," Detective Miller commanded, his voice cold and commanding. "You're under arrest for the arson and murder of Clara Montgomery, as well as attempted financial fraud."
Julian raised his hands slowly, his face draining of all color. But even as the cuffs clicked sharply around his wrists, a chilling, mocking smile twisted his lips. He turned his head slightly, locking his eyes onto Elena with a look of pure venom.

"You think the police can hold me, Elena?" Julian whispered as the officers dragged him backward toward the shattered doorway. "My associates outside are already taking care of your precious family downstairs."
