Chapter 7 - The Confrontation

The silence that followed Julian's dropped mask was heavy and absolute, broken only by the steady howling of the wind outside against the balcony glass. Julian didn't flinch, nor did he panic. Instead, a slow, dark chuckle escaped his lips, sending a fresh wave of dread through Elena’s veins.
"Clara," Julian murmured, tasting the name on his tongue as if it were a fine wine. He took another step forward, closing the distance between them until Elena could feel the heat radiating from his chest. "I always knew she talked too much. Even when she was burning, she couldn't keep her mouth shut."
From inside the walk-in closet, a faint, muffled gasp echoed through the door. Julian’s eyes flicked instantly toward the mirrored panels, a wicked grin spreading across his face.
"Ah," Julian said softly, his voice dropping into a mocking sing-song. "We have an audience. How delightfully theatrical."
Before Elena could react, Julian lunged forward with terrifying speed, his hand shooting out to grab her wrist. He twisted her arm behind her back with brutal force, ripping the remaining pieces of the letter and the bouquet from her grip. The white and blush roses scattered across the hardwood floor like fallen snow, their petals instantly crushed beneath his polished shoes.
"Let go of me!" Elena cried out, the restrained composure finally shattering as a burst of adrenaline fueled her resistance. She threw her weight backward, slamming her heel down onto his foot with all her might.
Julian grunted in pain, his grip loosening just enough for Elena to wrench her arm free. She stumbled back against the vanity, gasping for air as she clutched her bruised wrist. Julian glared at her, rubbing his foot, his eyes burning with pure malice.
"You really thought you could outsmart me, Elena?" Julian snarled, his voice rising, losing all its charming cadence. "You are just a stepping stone. A pretty little signature on a financial transfer that clears my debts and sets me up for life."
"You're a monster," Elena spat, her voice shaking with rage as she reached behind her, her fingers desperately searching the tabletop for something—anything—to defend herself. Her hand closed around the heavy, silver-plated candlestick holder.
Julian laughed, stepping toward her with his hand raised, ready to strike. "Monster, survivor, businessman—call me whatever you want. But by the end of today, you'll be nothing more than a tragic, grieving bride who fell from her balcony in a moment of wedding-day despair."

As Julian lunged to grab her throat, the mirrored door of the walk-in closet suddenly flew open with a deafening crash.
