Chapter 14 - The Aftermath in the Great Hall

The rain had finally slowed to a steady, rhythmic drizzle by the time Elena walked down the grand marble staircase. The ballroom downstairs was no longer silent. Flashing red and blue lights from a dozen police cruisers painted the high vaulted ceilings in an erratic, pulsing glow. Paramedics were checking over her parents on the velvet sofa, wrapping them in warm thermal blankets while they wept tears of overwhelming relief.

Detective Miller stood near the grand entrance, supervising the transfer of Julian, Maya, and their associates into separate transport vans parked outside.

Sarah walked beside Elena, gently holding her arm to steady her steps. Elena had changed out of the blood-stained, ruined wedding gown into a simple black coat and boots, but the heavy pearl earrings still hung from her lobes—the only remnant of the fairytale that had nearly cost her everything.

"Are you going to be okay?" Sarah asked softly, her voice filled with deep, genuine concern as they reached the bottom of the landing.

Elena looked over at her parents, watching her mother smile through her tears as a paramedic handed her a cup of warm tea. She took a deep, steady breath, feeling the cool air fill her lungs—truly fill her lungs—for the first time in three years.

"I'm not okay right now," Elena answered honestly, a small, genuine smile finally touching the corners of her lips. "But for the first time in my life, I'm entirely free."

Detective Miller walked over, tipping his hat respectfully as he approached them. "We've secured the hardware wallet and all the offshore server backups, Elena. Your assets have been frozen and are already being repatriated to your family accounts. The syndicate's local network has been completely dismantled."

"Thank you, Detective," Elena said, extending her hand. Miller shook it firmly, offering an encouraging nod before turning back to his officers.

As the police vans pulled away down the winding coastal driveway, the heavy iron gates of the estate swung open to let in the morning light, cutting through the lingering gray clouds. Elena walked out onto the front steps, looking out over the endless expanse of the ocean.
