Chapter 13: The Lawful Heir

On August 20, the Fairfield County Probate Court held a historic evidentiary hearing.
Judge Arthur Vance entered the courtroom wearing his judicial robes, smiling warmly at the family gathered before him.
Alexander sat at the petitioner’s table in a tailored suit, holding Clara’s hand, with five-year-old Leo sitting proudly between them in a navy blazer.
""In the matter of the parentage and legal lineage of Leo Nolan,"" Judge Vance read from the gold-sealed decree. ""This court officially vacates all fraudulent state records. The birth registry is permanently amended to reflect **Leo Alexander Sterling**, sole legitimate heir to the Sterling Estate and Trust.""
The judge brought down his gavel with a firm, joyful crack.
Leo cheered, throwing his arms around Alexander’s neck.
Judge Vance stepped down from the bench, handing Leo his new certified birth certificate.
""You have a father of extraordinary honor, Leo,"" the judge said gently.
