Chapter 1 - The Shattered Silence

“You have to drink this entire bottle of wine, right here, right now,” Julian snarled, his voice vibrating with a cold, terrifying fury that froze the air in the opulent dining room.
Arthur staggered backward from the wreckage of the antique grandfather clock, clutching a bleeding lip as splinters of glass rained over the Persian rug.
“Julian, you absolute madman, you are out of your mind!” Arthur choked out, wiping blood from his chin while trying to steady his trembling legs against the polished mahogany floor.
“Am I?” Julian stepped forward, his dark suit jacket straining across broad shoulders covered in intricate, shadowy tattoos, his eyes locked onto his brother with lethal intensity. “My four-year-old daughter just told me that Katherine told her I would die after drinking from that exact decanter. Explain yourself, Arthur.”
Grandmother Evelyn slammed her white porcelain plate onto the long dining table, the sharp clatter silencing the room instantly. “Julian, control your temper this microscopic instant! Katherine was merely speaking in childish metaphor about your reckless heart condition, and you are acting like a savage beast in front of the child!”
Little Lily buried her face deeper into her father’s white cardigan, her soft blonde curls shaking as she whimpered quietly against his shoulder, pointing a tiny, trembling finger toward the shattered clock.
“She said it with a stopwatch, Grandma,” Lily whispered, her voice muffled and heartbreakingly small. “She said Daddy’s heart would stop ticking right when the big hand hit twelve.”
Julian’s gaze snapped from his mother to the fallen man on the floor, his jaw clenching so hard a muscle twitched violently. Arthur slowly pushed himself up, a twisted, venomous smirk breaking through the blood on his face.
“Go ahead, big brother,” Arthur wheezed, laughing darkly as he gestured to the open decanter on the table. “Drink the family vintage. Prove to everyone you aren't a coward hiding behind ghost stories.”

Julian raised the heavy glass decanter to Arthur’s lips, forcing him down to his knees.
