Chapter 7: Behind High Walls**

By sunrise, a private helicopter landed on the sprawling manicured lawns of Julian’s secluded oceanfront estate in Montauk. Surrounded by electrified perimeter fences, thermal cameras, and twenty-four-hour elite private guards, Clara finally felt the crushing weight of five years of constant vigilance begin to lift.
Leo was completely captivated by the grandeur, running across the expansive terrace to look at the crashing waves of the Atlantic. Mrs. Gable, who had agreed to come along as Leo’s trusted nanny, looked after the boy while Julian led Clara into his private study.
The room smelled of rich mahogany and old leather. On the central desk sat a single framed photograph: Clara on their wedding day in Santorini, smiling radiant and carefree.
“You kept it,” Clara murmured, touching the glass frame with a delicate fingertip.
“I never moved it,” Julian said, standing right behind her. “Every business decision I made, every company I acquired, I looked at your face. I built an empire because I thought success could fill the grave I dug for my heart. But it was just an empty monument.”
Clara turned to face him, the tension between them crackling with unspoken yearning and years of unresolved grief. “Julian, we are not the same naive newlyweds who got married in Greece. I spent five years scrubbing toilets, counting dimes for bread, constantly looking over my shoulder. And you live in a world of cutthroats and sharks.”
“Then let me use those sharks to tear down whoever dared to touch my family,” Julian said darkly. He pulled out a encrypted satellite phone. “I’ve already hired the best forensic investigators in the country. We are pulling the old police files, bank records from five years ago, and phone registries.”
The phone in Julian’s hand buzzed violently. It was Marcus, his cousin and the Chief Operating Officer of Vance Global.
Julian put the call on speakerphone. “Julian? Where the hell are you?” Marcus’s panicked voice echoed into the room. “The Sterling family is threatening to sue us for breach of contract! Victoria says you abandoned her for a maid at the gala!”

Julian’s eyes narrowed into slits. “Tell Victoria the engagement is dead. And Marcus? Call an emergency board meeting for tomorrow morning at nine. I have an announcement that will change this company forever.”
