Chapter 1 - The Driveway Confrontation

The autumn sun beat down relentlessly on the cracked asphalt of the residential driveway. Marcus stood just inches from the front fender of his pristine blue vintage pickup truck, his chest heaving with controlled fury. Across from him, Officer Miller adjusted the heavy leather belt resting against his uniform, his face carved from sheer stubbornness. The tow truck behind the vintage vehicle hummed with a low, menacing diesel vibration, its hydraulic arm already extended toward the classic chrome bumper.

“That truck is being impounded,” Officer Miller said firmly, his voice cutting through the heavy afternoon air. “You’re not leaving with it.”

Marcus stepped closer, keeping his voice dangerously low. “It’s legally parked. You have no basis to seize it.”

Miller narrowed his eyes, stepping into Marcus's personal space. “Keep arguing and you’ll be coming with me.”

Without warning, Miller unclipped the cold steel handcuffs from his tactical belt and lunged forward, grabbing Marcus’s right wrist with a practiced, aggressive jerk. The metal clicked sharply as it locked around his skin, biting tight.

Marcus didn't flinch. Instead, he raised his cuffed hands slightly, his gaze piercing directly into the officer’s eyes.

“Look behind my driver’s license before you make this mistake,” Marcus said, his voice terrifyingly calm.

Miller froze, his hand hovering near his holster as a flicker of profound uncertainty crossed his features. He slowly reached into Marcus's back pocket, pulled out the worn leather wallet, and flipped open the plastic window to examine the card. As his eyes scanned the small print and the holographic seal tucked directly behind the license, the color drained completely from his face.
