Chapter 3 - Shattered Porcelain

The sound of clattering crystal cut through the air as Clara’s hand swiped wildly at Marcus’s phone, sending it spinning across the white tablecloth before it crashed onto the polished marble floor. The screen shattered into a web of glowing green fractures, but the audio loop continued to play for a haunting second longer, replaying Clara’s exact instructions about the guest suite closet.

Julian didn't look at the phone. His dark eyes remained fixed entirely on Clara, who was now kneeling on the floor amidst the broken glass and spilled wine, desperately trying to gather the folds of her gold silk dress around her waist. The illusion of elegance was utterly ruined; she looked desperate, cornered, and terrifyingly exposed.

"Is there more?" Julian asked quietly, addressing Marcus without breaking eye contact with Clara. His tone was devoid of anger now, which somehow made it infinitely more terrifying. "On that phone, or the cloud backup?"

Marcus stepped over a dropped silver fork, his expression grim. "The cloud syncs in real-time, Julian. Every clip, every message between Clara and Elena planning this exact timeline, and the financial statements showing massive withdrawals from your corporate accounts over the past six months to fund Clara's offshore accounts."

Elena let out a sharp gasp, her hands flying to cover her mouth. "That's a complete fabrication! Marcus, you're conspiring with disgruntled board members to smear Clara's reputation!"

"Shut up, Elena," Julian said. It wasn't a shout; it was a command that carried the absolute weight of a man who controlled billions in assets. He turned his attention back to Clara, who was now staring up at him with wide, tear-filled eyes that no longer looked innocent or fragile. "You had a penthouse, a black card, a seat at the head of every major foundation gala in the city. And you faked a pregnancy."

"I did it for us!" Clara cried out, her voice finally breaking as she abandoned all pretense of composure. She reached out, her manicured fingers grazing the hem of Julian's tuxedo trousers. "Julian, you wanted an heir so badly to secure the board's vote for the CEO position. If I didn't announce a pregnancy, your uncle would have handed the company to David. I saved your career!"

The entire ballroom went dead silent. Julian looked down at her, a muscle twitching in his jaw.

"My career," Julian whispered, stepping backward out of her reach. "You used a sofa pillow to anchor a multi-million-dollar inheritance fraud. And you dragged innocent children into your web."

Julian turned on his heel and walked toward the grand exit, leaving Clara kneeling alone on the floor. But as he reached the heavy oak doors, his phone buzzed violently in his pocket with a text from an unknown number.
