Chapter 4: Echoes of the Past

When Julian confronted Elena with the note, her face lost all color.

“Silas was a cruel man, Julian,” she whispered, leaning against the mahogany desk in the library. “Before he died, he told my father that he kept his most precious secrets where no one would look—where warmth dies.”

“You knew about the room?” Julian asked, betrayal sharpening his tone.

“No! I swear!” Elena cried, tears welling in her eyes. “I thought it was just a figure of speech! My father lost his entire livelihood because of your grandfather's corporate sabotage. When we married, I thought we were closing that dark chapter.”

Julian stepped closer, taking Elena’s hands into his own. The anger melted into grief. “We aren't our grandfathers, Elena. But whatever Silas left behind nearly killed our daughter today. We have to clear the air once and for all.”
