Chapter 10: The Unseen Guest

The storm grew fierce, knocking out the estate’s power grid at midnight. The grand house fell into pitch darkness, save for the flickering candlelight in the foyer.
A floorboard creaked near the front study.
Julian, carrying a heavy flashlight, moved quietly down the grand staircase. He saw a shadowed figure standing by the open wall safe in his office.
“You came back for the rest of it, didn't you?” Julian said calmly, stepping into the doorway.

The figure turned slowly. The beam of light revealed an elderly man with silver hair, wearing a worn coat soaked from the rain. His face was weathered, etched with decades of pain and resentment.
“You look just like your grandfather, boy,” the man rasped.
