Chapter 1: The Echo of Broken Glass

The sound of shattering gold and heavy crystal still vibrated against the pristine white walls of the grand hallway. Elena stood tall, her thirty-five-year-old frame encased in a striking red sleeveless slit dress that practically radiated fury. Her blonde hair, meticulously tied back, accentuated the sharp, unforgiving line of her jaw and the dramatic, angry glare in her eyes. Beneath her stood Clara, thirty years old, her brown hair pulled into a simple bun, dressed in a humble blue and white maid uniform with a pristine white apron. Clara’s pregnant belly pressed against the hardwood floor as she huddled against the baseboard, tears silently tracking down her pale cheeks.
"Get out of my sight!" Elena snapped, her voice cutting through the heavy air like a razor, carrying the weight of years of betrayal and quiet resentment.
Clara winced, clutching her abdomen protectively as she stared at the scattered shards of the antique gold-framed mirror that now lay ruined between them. The reflective pieces caught the harsh light of the crystal chandeliers overhead, splintering the illumination into a thousand jagged fragments. Clara’s breath came in ragged, painful gasps. She did not want to be here, trapped in this gilded cage of wealth and deceit, but circumstances had painted her into a corner from which there was no obvious escape.
Julian stepped forward from the shadows of the arched doorway, his tall, imposing figure cutting an intimidating silhouette in his tailored black suit and crisp white shirt. The dark ink of a sprawling tattoo peeked out from the collar of his shirt, wrapping around his neck and disappearing beneath his chest fabric. At forty years old, Julian carried himself with the heavy authority of a man accustomed to controlling every variable in his orbit. Yet, right now, his gaze was fixed entirely on Elena, his eyes narrowing with a dark, protective intensity.
"Don’t touch her again," Julian warned, his voice low, steady, and dripping with a quiet menace that commanded absolute silence in the expansive corridor.
Elena whirled around to face him, her chest heaving beneath the crimson silk of her dress. Her expression shifted from cold dismissal to utter disbelief. The audacity of his defense stung deeper than any physical blow could have managed. She had built this empire by his side, yet here he was, shielding the domestic help who carried a secret that threatened to blow their entire world into dust.
Julian ignored Elena’s blazing stare. He knelt beside Clara, his movements deliberate and unhurried. He looked down at the trembling young woman with a genuine, heavy concern that made Elena’s blood run cold.

"You’re protecting her?" Elena hissed, her voice cracking slightly with a sudden surge of raw, unadulterated betrayal.
Julian kept his eyes locked on Clara, his expression hardening into a resolute mask before he looked up at his wife. "Leave before I..." he began, letting the threat hang heavy in the air.
