Chapter 15: Light in the Corridor

That evening, after the guests had departed and the quiet night settled over the estate, Ethan walked through the grand hallway one last time before going to bed.

The moonlight streamed through the tall arched windows, casting long, soft beams of light across the floor. Where the shattered mirror had once hung, there was now a large, beautifully crafted wooden panel carved with a tree whose roots ran deep into the earth, its branches reaching wide and welcoming.

Clara walked up quietly beside him, holding little Julian, who was fast asleep against her shoulder.

"It's quiet tonight," she whispered.

"It's a good quiet," Ethan replied softly.

He looked at the carved wooden panel, then at Clara and his nephew. The echoes of past anger, fear, and cold ambition had finally faded from the estate, replaced by the enduring strength of love, responsibility, and quiet redemption.

Ethan took Clara’s hand, and together they walked down the brightly lit corridor, leaving the darkness of the past behind them for good.
