Chapter 14: The Gathering

On a crisp autumn afternoon, the estate hosted its annual community harvest gathering. Dozens of families from the nearby town gathered on the lawn. Children ran through the falling leaves, while local musicians played acoustic guitars on the wide wooden porch Ethan had built.

Tables were laden with fresh bread, roasted vegetables, and hot apple cider. The old mansion, once a symbol of division and inherited privilege, had become a center of connection and shared joy.

Ethan stood near the edge of the porch, holding little Julian on his hip. The boy looked remarkably like his father—with dark bright eyes and a curious, gentle nature.

Marcus, Ethan's lawyer and friend, walked over holding a warm cup of cider. He looked out over the crowded lawn with a quiet smile.

"If your father could see this place now, he wouldn't recognize it," Marcus said softly.

"No," Ethan agreed with a light smile. "He wouldn't. He thought value was measured in balance sheets and property deeds. He never understood that the true value of a home is the warmth inside it."

"You've built something remarkable here, Ethan," Marcus said, patting him on the shoulder. "Not just a business, but a life."
