Two months later, as autumn turned the surrounding forest into vibrant shades of gold and amber, the final quiet transformation took place.
In the early morning hours, Clara went into labor. Instead of the cold, chaotic hospital setting she had feared, a local midwife arrived at the estate, accompanied by a quiet nurse. Ethan stayed by Clara's side throughout the long hours, holding her hand just as he had promised Julian he would protect his family.
When the sun finally broke over the horizon, casting warm morning light through the high arched windows, the quiet crying of a newborn filled the room.
"It's a boy," the midwife announced softly, wrapping the baby in a soft woolen blanket and placing him in Clara's arms.
Clara wept softly, her face exhausted but glowing with profound happiness. She looked down at the tiny baby, who had a faint tuft of light brown hair and wide, bright eyes.
Ethan leaned over, his throat tight with emotion as he gently touched the baby's tiny hand. The infant's fingers curled instinctively around Ethan's thumb.
