Chapter 8: Confrontation in the Light

Clara returned to the penthouse, her face pale and her hands trembling as she locked the heavy timber door behind her. Julian came out of the study immediately, noticing her distress before she even took off her coat.

"Clara, what happened?" Julian asked, hurrying to take Leo from the stroller. "Are you alright?"

"Marcus found us in the park," Clara said, her voice shaking as she sank into an armchair. "He threatened to go to the press with the documents from my father's medical fund. He said he would frame it as if you used company funds to bribe my family during the investigation."

Julian set Leo down in his playpen and walked over to Clara, kneeling beside her chair just as he had in the lobby weeks ago. He took her cold hands in his own, his expression calm and fierce.

"Listen to me, Clara," Julian said firmly. "Marcus has no power over us anymore. The only power he ever had was our fear of the truth being twisted."

"He will ruin you, Julian," Clara wept softly. "After everything you've sacrificed to clear your name..."

"My name is nothing without you and Leo," Julian replied, his thumb gently stroking her knuckles. "I spent a year hiding behind attorneys and corporate PR teams, trying to protect my standing. It almost cost me my family. I won't let him use fear to separate us again."

Julian stood up, pulling out his phone. He dialed his head of legal counsel directly, his voice ringing out with clear, unwavering authority. "Arthur, release the full audit reports to the District Attorney's office immediately. Include the records of the hardship fund Marcus managed. We are opening everything to the public today."
