Chapter 3: Unspoken Letters

Clara lowered her eyes for the first time, the calm facade cracking slightly. She remembered the late nights in the quiet apartment, watching the news reports that painted Julian as a man focused solely on rebuilding his financial empire, completely unaware that Marcus had intercepted every letter and call Clara had sent.

"I called your office every day for three months, Julian," Clara said, her voice dropping to a whisper so as not to startle Leo. "Your secretary told me you had moved on. She said you paid for my silence through an anonymous bank transfer."

Julian’s eyes widened in horror. "I never authorized any transfer. I never received a single message from you. Marcus... Marcus controlled the firm’s communications until the board removed him last fall."

The realization hit Clara like a sudden frost. The bitterness she had carried for a year was built on a foundation of deliberate lies. She looked at Julian, seeing not the arrogant executive the media portrayed, but a broken man who had been kept in the dark while his world was dismantled around him.

Little Leo reached out again, his soft hand gently patting Julian’s jacket lapel. Julian looked down at the baby’s touch, his hand slowly rising to cover the child’s small fingers.

"I didn't abandon you, Clara," Julian said, his voice trembling with absolute sincerity. "I would have given up everything—the company, the money, my name—just to be there when he took his first breath."
