Chapter 13: Promises Kept

On a sunlit afternoon in late May, Julian led Clara back to the same high-rise lobby where they had reunited six months earlier. The elevator doors opened, but this time, the lobby was not empty.
Gathered near the central fountain were their closest friends, Clara’s sister, and the staff who had stood by them through the difficult months. Soft string music floated through the hall, and the marble floor was lightly scattered with white rose petals.
Clara paused, looking at Julian in surprise. "Julian... what is this?"
Julian smiled, taking her hand gently. "When we met here months ago, we were surrounded by shadows and unspoken questions. I wanted us to have a new memory in this place—one built on promises we intend to keep for the rest of our lives."
A minister stepped forward near the fountain. Leo, now two years old and walking confidently, toddled over carrying a small velvet ring pillow, guided gently by Clara’s sister.
Without the grand grandeur of a public corporate wedding, Julian and Clara exchanged their vows in the quiet beauty of the space that had once seen their greatest heartbreak.

"I promise to listen when the world is noisy," Julian said, placing a simple gold band on Clara’s finger. "I promise to protect our home, to honor your strength, and to walk beside you through every season."
Clara smiled through tears of happiness, placing a matching band on his hand. "I promise to trust the light we found together, and to love you without fear."
