Chapter 2: The Weight of Truth

Leo shifted in Clara’s arms, his small fingers reaching out toward the silver tie clip on Julian’s chest. The simple, innocent gesture broke the invisible barrier between them. Julian dropped to one knee, bringing himself level with the child.
"Hi, Leo..." Julian whispered, a single tear slipping past his dark eyelashes and tracing a path down his cheek. He didn't dare reach out to touch the boy, fearful that the moment would evaporate like mist.
Clara watched him, her heart aching at the genuine pain in his eyes, yet the memory of how they had been parted kept her guarded. Eighteen months ago, Julian had vanished after a corporate scandal orchestrated by his former business partner, Marcus. Believing Julian had abandoned her to preserve his reputation, Clara had carried the pregnancy alone, raising Leo in quiet solitude.
"He's... he's mine?" Julian asked, his voice barely audible as he looked up at Clara from the floor.
"Yes," Clara replied softly. "He has your eyes. He has your silence."

Julian slowly stood up, wiping his cheek with the back of his hand. The initial shock began to give way to an overwhelming tide of confusion and regret. He stepped closer, his shadow merging with hers in the soft lobby lighting.
"Why didn't you tell me?" Julian asked, his voice laced with emotional agony. "I looked for you, Clara. I spent months searching every corner of this city after the trial ended."
