Chapter 1: The Echo in the Lobby

The soft chime of the elevator bell echoed against the polished marble walls of the high-rise lobby. Golden ambient light filtered down from the ceiling fixtures, casting long, elegant shadows across the sleek interior. Standing just a few feet apart, separated by years of silence and unspoken grief, were Julian and Clara.
In Clara’s arms rested a little boy no older than one year. He wore a miniature dark suit coat, his soft, dark curly hair framing a pale, innocent face. His wide brown eyes darted between his mother’s calm demeanor and the trembling man standing before them.
Julian wore a tailored brown suit, but his posture was far from rigid. His hands trembled at his sides as his gaze remained locked on the child. Every breath felt like crushed glass in his chest.
"Is that...?" Julian’s voice cracked, unable to finish the question that had haunted his dreams for over a year.
Clara held the baby closer, her expression composed yet carrying a quiet weight of sorrow. She adjusted her grip slightly, her eyes steady as she looked into Julian’s frantic face.

"His name is Leo," Clara said quietly, her voice smooth and devoid of malice, yet sharp enough to shatter the illusion of Julian’s orderly world.
Julian took a small, hesitant step forward, his polished shoes tapping softly against the floor. He looked down at the tiny hand resting against Clara’s shoulder, a hand that held the power to rewrite every truth he thought he knew about his past.
