Chapter 15 - The Retribution Broadcast

Twenty-four hours later, the Manhattan headquarters of Vanderbilt Global Media was operating under extreme emergency protocol. Security was at its highest alert level following the disappearance of Julian Vanderbilt and the destruction of Christian Sterling's coastal estate.
Inside the thirty-fifth-floor executive studio, Arthur Vanderbilt sat calmly behind the anchor desk, wearing an impeccable navy suit. Across from him, Eleanor Vanderbilt adjusted her makeup, preparing for a live, nationwide broadcast intended to pin Clara Higgins as the ringleader of a violent extortion scheme orchestrated by rival syndicates.
"Going live in thirty seconds, Mr. Vanderbilt," the producer called out through the intercom.
Arthur adjusted his cuffs, his cold, calculating smile firmly in place. "Remember, Eleanor. Sincere tears. The public loves a mother mourning her kidnapped son."
"Five... four... three..."
The red recording lights flickered on. Arthur leaned toward the main lens, preparing his signature authoritative address.
Suddenly, the teleprompter screen went completely black. The studio lights turned blood-red. The live feed did not open on Arthur Vanderbilt’s face.
Across every major television network and streaming service in the nation, the feed cut directly to an untraceable server broadcast.
On the screens of fifty million people appeared Clara Higgins.
She was dressed in a simple high-collared black shirt, her face pale, the cut on her cheek cleanly stitched. Behind her sat Julian Vanderbilt, his head down, tears silently rolling down his face as he placed stacks of original forensic documents, police payoffs, and Arthur’s private ledger directly beneath the high-definition document camera.
Clara looked straight into the camera lens with cold, terrifying finality.
"My name is Clara Higgins," she began, her voice steady and echoing through millions of living rooms. "Six months ago, I was held captive beneath Blackwood Manor by Arthur Vanderbilt. Tonight, with the full confession and sworn testimony of his grandson, Julian Vanderbilt, we are releasing the names of every politician, judge, and CEO who bought human silence from the Vanderbilt family."
Clara slowly reached up and unbuttoned the top three buttons of her shirt, pulling the fabric down to reveal the savage, unmistakable claw marks across her collarbone.

"Arthur," Clara said, her eyes boring into the camera, looking directly into the studio monitor where Arthur Vanderbilt sat frozen in horror. "Look closely at the screen. Because the girl you tried to bury is the one reading your sentence."
Arthur reached frantically for the emergency off-switch beneath the studio desk, but his hand froze as the heavy double doors of the television studio were kicked open, revealing a dozen federal agents with arrest warrants drawn.
