Chapter 9: The Fall of a Tyrant

The heavy oak doors opened once more, but this time, four armed police officers entered, led by Detective Miller.
""Victor Blackwood,"" Miller declared, pulling out a pair of steel handcuffs. ""You are under arrest for attempted murder, conspiracy, and grand larceny.""
Victor backed away toward the glass window, looking like a cornered animal. ""You think you've won, Julian? Sarah is still rotting in that hospital bed! You'll never get her back!""
""Sarah is already on her way to the Mayo Clinic,"" I replied coldly. ""The doctors you paid to keep her sedated have been stripped of their licenses. She’s waking up, Victor. Your poison failed.""

As the handcuffs clicked around Victor's wrists, he slumped, all the arrogant strength draining from his body. The board members stood in silence as he was marched out of the room he had tried so hard to steal.
The room was quiet now. I took a deep breath, feeling the crushing weight of five long years slowly lift from my shoulders.
