Chapter 10: The Road to Recovery

Two weeks passed. The black clouds that had hung over our family finally began to clear. The news of Victor’s arrest rocked the business world, but I immediately stepped down as CEO, appointing an ethical board to oversee the transition. Money meant nothing anymore. Family was everything.

At the specialized recovery center, the morning sun poured through the wide glass windows. Sarah sat in a wheelchair, pale and frail, but her eyes were bright and wide open.

Lily and Evelyn stood near the doorway, holding hands tightly, shy yet eager.

""Sarah..."" I whispered, kneeling beside her chair and taking her hand.

May you like

""Julian,"" she rasped, her voice soft like rustling leaves. She looked past me, her eyes alighting on the two little girls. Tears overflowed, cascading down her cheeks. ""My babies... you brought them back to me.""

Lily ran forward first, burying her head gently into Sarah's lap. ""Mommy! I kept the necklace safe, just like you told me!""
