Chapter 7: The Boardroom Storm

The top floor of Blackwood Tower was quiet, surrounded by glass walls showing the gray morning sky. Victor sat at the head of the conference table, wearing a tailored navy suit, adjusting his golden cufflinks. The board members sat around him, murmuring softly.
""Gentlemen,"" Victor announced, his voice smooth and commanding. ""It is with a heavy heart that I announce my brother Julian’s sudden medical emergency. He is unfit to lead. Therefore, under Clause 4, I am assuming full voting control.""
""Not so fast, Victor,"" my voice echoed from the heavy double doors.
The room went dead silent. Victor turned, his face draining of all color as if he had seen a ghost. His jaw tightened, his knuckles turning white against the polished wood.

""You mean I should be in the morgue,"" I corrected, walking slowly down the center of the room. ""Just like you planned.""
