Chapter 10

The heavy steel door of the forty-second-floor server suite yielded with a sharp metallic snap as Maya finished bypassing the electronic magnetic lock with her bypass kit. She pushed the door open cautiously, stepping into a vast, cathedral-like room illuminated only by the rhythmic, pulsing blue and green glow of hundreds of rack-mounted server blades. The air was freezing, chilled by industrial air conditioning designed to keep the processing units from overheating.
"We have four minutes before the patrol drone cycles back to this sector," Maya said quietly, her fingers flying across her portable interface as she plugged Claire's custom-built tablet into the main server terminal. "Claire, plug your security token into the secondary port. We need to initiate the master decryption sequence before the system recognizes an unauthorized intrusion."
Claire stepped forward, her boots clicking softly against the raised metal floor tiles. She inserted her gold-encrusted security token into the glowing slot, and a soft chime echoed through the quiet room. Instantly, holographic data streams cascaded down the primary wall monitors, displaying encrypted financial transfers, shell company portfolios, and the signed custody documents transferring her family's empire to Apex Global.
"I have access to the primary trust archives," Claire announced, her eyes locked on the scrolling data lines. Her fingers danced across the physical keyboard with astonishing speed. "Retrieving the original video deposition recorded by my father twelve months ago before his medical decline."
Julian stood guard near the entrance, holding a specialized tactical scanner that monitored internal security frequencies for any sign of approaching guards or automated alerts. "Hurry, Claire. The system is starting to log anomalous traffic signatures on the sub-subnet. Somebody in the executive suite on the penthouse level just noticed the intrusion."
On the main monitor, a high-definition video file materialized, labeled Sterling_Trust_Final_Deposition_Confidential. Claire hit play, and the face of Arthur Sterling filled the massive screen. The aging billionaire looked frail, sitting in a leather armchair in his Swiss study, but his eyes were sharp, bright, and completely lucid—utterly contradicting the claims of neurological decline fabricated by Jonathan Reed and Marcus Vance.

“If you are watching this recording,” Arthur Sterling's voice echoed through the cold server room, rich and resonant, “it means Jonathan Reed and his associates have initiated the hostile takeover clause of my estate. Let it be known on the official record that any custody transfer signed under my name after this date was executed under extreme pharmacological coercion while I was held against my will.”
Suddenly, the red emergency alarm klaxon blared overhead, bathing the entire room in an aggressive, pulsating crimson light. The monitors locked down, flashing a stark warning across the screens: System Breach Detected. Autonomous Quarantine Initiated.
