Chapter 12: Confrontation at Dawn

By 6:00 AM, the sun began to rise over the city skyline, painting the clouds in shades of deep amber and pink.

The glass skyscraper of Vance Enterprises stood tall against the morning sky, a symbol of immense wealth and power. Inside the top-floor executive suite, Marcus Vance sat behind his wide glass desk, sipping black coffee as he looked over financial reports.

The heavy double doors of his office swung open.

Marcus didn't look up immediately. ""I hope you're coming in here to tell me the girl and the ledger have been taken care of,"" he said coldly.

""They're safe,"" a voice replied. ""Where you can never touch them again.""

Marcus froze. He raised his head to see Julian standing in the doorway. Julian was still wearing his disheveled clothes from the night before, his face showing signs of exhaustion, but his eyes were sharp and unyielding.

""Julian,"" Marcus said, leaning back in his chair, hiding his surprise behind a smug smile. ""You look terrible. I assume my men gave you a warm greeting at the cabin?""

""Your men are currently answering questions for the state police,"" Julian said calmly, stepping into the room and walking toward the desk. ""And in about five minutes, you'll be answering questions of your own.""

Marcus’s smile faded slightly. ""What are you talking about?""

Julian reached into his pocket and placed a folded document on the desk. ""That is an official notice of an emergency board meeting called by myself as majority shareholder. And behind that...""

Before Julian could finish, the sound of multiple footsteps echoed in the hallway outside.

Evelyn Reed walked into the office, accompanied by four armed federal marshals and two city police detectives.

""Marcus Vance,"" Evelyn said, presenting a signed document. ""You are under arrest for corporate fraud, obstruction of justice, and conspiracy to commit corporate manslaughter.""

Marcus stood up abruptly, his coffee cup knocking over and spilling dark liquid across his immaculate desk. ""This is absurd! You have no authority here! Julian, have you lost your mind?! You are destroying this family!""

""No, Marcus,"" Julian said, standing tall as the marshals stepped forward to handcuff his uncle. ""You destroyed this family a long time ago. I'm just cleaning up the trash.""
