Chapter 6: The Alleys of Hell’s Kitchen**

Elena adjusted the collar of her nondescript trench coat as she navigated the crowded sidewalks of Hell’s Kitchen. She kept her head down, blending seamlessly with the lunchtime rush of commuters, food vendors, and tourists.

She wasn't running away; she was heading toward the one person who held the physical paper trail: Dr. Samuel Moore. Dr. Moore was the former chief administrator at St. Jude who had been abruptly fired and discredited shortly after Elena's disappearance.

Entering a small, dusty second-hand bookstore on 9th Avenue, Elena walked straight to the back room. Behind a stack of vintage medical encyclopedias sat a frail, bespectacled man in his late sixties.

"Samuel," Elena whispered.

The old doctor dropped his reading glasses, his hands shaking violently as he looked up. "Elena... dear God, it really is you. I thought the news reports were a cruel joke."

Tears welled in the old man's eyes as he embraced her like a daughter. "Your father was the greatest benefactor this city ever had. When they said you drowned... they dismantled everything we built within months."

"I know, Samuel," Elena said gently, pulling out a chair and sitting across from him. "Marcus told me how they took away your medical license when you refused to sign the falsified audit."

Dr. Moore sighed, a heavy weight visible in his slouched shoulders. "They didn't just ruin my career, Elena. They closed the mobile clinics. They stopped funding the rare disease research center. Thousands of low-income families lost their only access to life-saving treatments."

"That ends this week," Elena said, her voice firm with resolve. "I need the original, unredacted transfer receipts you kept in the hospital vault."
