Chapter 6: Aftermath in the Morning Light**

By dawn, Highpoint Manor felt completely transformed. The glitz and superficial charm of the previous night’s gala were gone, replaced by the sober presence of forensics teams cataloging evidence in the service hallways. The extravagant crystal chandeliers hung dim under the soft morning light filtering through the floor-to-ceiling windows.
Ethan had been taken to the county hospital for comprehensive medical evaluations. The pediatric team confirmed severe dehydration and mild malnutrition, but fortunately, no permanent physical injuries. What he needed most was psychological stability, rest, and unconditional warmth.
In the hospital room, sunlight spilled over the white sheets. Victoria sat on the edge of the bed, softly humming a lullaby as Ethan slept peacefully, his chest rising and falling in deep, restorative slumber. For the first time in two weeks, the boy wasn't shivering in a dark wall cavity.
Outside in the quiet corridor, Julian leaned against the wall, staring at the front page of the morning newspaper an aide had brought him. The headlines were already blaring: *“Billionaire Brother Arrested in Bizarre Kidnapping Plot at Sterling Gala.”*
His phone buzzed relentlessly with incoming calls from political donors, senate leaders, and party strategists. They were all calling to offer damage control advice, eager to spin the tragedy into a heroic comeback story to secure his upcoming judicial appointment.
Julian looked down at the vibrating screen for a long, quiet moment. He thought about the sound of Ethan’s voice through the shattered plaster. He remembered his son's words: *“You told everyone I was bad.”*
Without answering a single call, Julian pressed the power button and shut the phone off entirely.
A soft tap on the glass door made him look up. Emma stood in the hallway, wearing a simple sweater and jeans instead of her maid uniform. She carried a small paper bag containing fresh blueberry muffins from the bakery down the street.
"How is he doing, Mr. Sterling?" she asked gently.

Julian offered a faint, genuinely grateful smile. "He’s resting. Emma... come inside. Please."
