Chapter 7 - The Unlikely Ally

Jax relaxed his grip on the gun slightly as he recognized the driver. It was Doc Thomas, an old friend who had treated Jax's injuries back in his wilder days and the only doctor in the county who wasn't under Vance's thumb.

Jax opened the door, stepping out onto the porch while keeping his weapon lowered. "Doc," Jax called out, his voice sharp. "How did you find this place?"

"Your friend Martha called me from the diner last night before Vance's men smashed her phone lines," Doc Thomas said, stepping up the wooden stairs. "She knew I was the only one who could get to Sarah without raising suspicion."

Jax's heart skipped a beat. "How is she, Doc? How's Sarah?"

Doc Thomas let out a heavy sigh, his weathered face lined with deep concern. "She's weak, Jax. Very weak. But she isn't sick like they told the boy. Vance's men have been poisoning her slow-acting medication to keep her weak, using her as a bargaining chip to pull you out of hiding."

Jax's fists clenched so tightly his knuckles turned white. A fierce, wild rage bubbled inside his chest. "Those bastards," he muttered through gritted teeth.

Leo peeked out from behind the door, his eyes wide with fear and hope. "My mom isn't dying?" he asked softly.

Doc Thomas smiled gently down at the boy. "No, son. She's a fighter. But we need to get her out of that medical facility before Vance realizes I know what they're doing."

"We go tonight," Jax declared, his voice cold and resolute. "Doc, I need your truck. And I need a way inside without triggering their security."
