Chapter 14 - The Road Ahead

Jax climbed into the driver's seat of the blue sedan, adjusting the rear-view mirror. In the reflection, he saw Leo looking out the window, clutching the small wooden dinosaur toy Doc Thomas had gifted him before they left.

"All packed up back there, buddy?" Jax asked, looking back at his son.

"Yep!" Leo exclaimed proudly. "I kept the photograph safe, too."

Sarah reached over, resting her hand over Jax's on the gear shift. Her skin was warm, her smile radiant. "Ready?" she asked softly.

Jax looked out at the open highway stretching out into the vast horizon. There were no motorcycle gangs chasing them, no secrets left in the dark, and no unresolved debts to pay. For the first time in forty-eight years, Jax felt completely free.

He started the engine, putting the car in drive, and smoothly pulled out onto the main road, leaving the small town and all its bitter memories far behind in the dust.

As they drove along the scenic coastal route, Leo leaned forward between the two front seats. "Dad?"

"Yeah, Leo?" Jax responded, meeting his son's eyes in the mirror.

Jax chuckled, a warm, deep sound that filled the entire car. "We'll see, kiddo. We'll see."
