Chapter 1 - The Echo of Silence

The diner remained frozen, suspended in a tense silence as the young boy's whispers hung heavily in the air. Jax staring down at the faded photograph beneath his calloused palm felt as though the earth had split open beneath his heavy boots. For forty-eight years, he had built a reputation as a ruthless, unyielding man—a ghost on two wheels who belonged to no one and owned nothing beyond his motorcycle. Yet, looking into the pale, hopeful face of the eight-year-old standing before him, his carefully constructed armor disintegrated instantly.
"My mom said you left before I was born," the boy repeated softly, his small fingers trembling around the edges of the folded paper he pulled from his battered jacket.
Jax couldn't speak. His throat felt clamped shut by a decades-old guilt that had never truly subsided. He remembered the woman—Sarah. She had been the only person who ever saw past his leather jacket and violent temper, but when things got dangerous with his rival motorcycle club, he had disappeared into the night, believing her life would be safer without him. He had convinced himself that running away was an act of mercy, but he had never known she was carrying his child.
The waitress, Martha, narrowed her eyes as she stepped closer, leaning over the laminate counter. "Jax... who is this kid?" she asked, her voice laced with suspicion. "Does Sarah know he's here?"

Before Jax could formulate a response, the heavy wooden doors of the diner burst open. The bell above the entrance chimed frantically as three tall, burly men clad in rival leather vests stepped into the room. The lead biker, a scar-faced man known as Vance, scanned the room before his gaze locked onto Jax and the boy. A sinister smile slowly spread across Vance's face as he realized Jax was not alone.
"Well, well, Jax," Vance drawled, resting his hand casually on the knife at his belt. "Is this the secret you've been hiding from us all these years?"
