Chapter 7

Judge Harrison raised a hand, signaling for the audio playback to stop. The sudden silence in the courtroom was absolute, heavy with the weight of undeniable truth. The judge looked down from his elevated bench, staring directly at Elena, whose attorney was now furiously shuffling papers in an attempt to distance himself from the damning evidence.

"Mrs. Vance," Judge Harrison said, his voice cold and devoid of any judicial warmth. "Your legal team has asserted that you are the victim of a hostile environment. Yet the material presented to this court demonstrates a systematic, calculated pattern of psychological abuse and severe emotional neglect directed toward minor children under your legal guardianship."

Elena slowly stood up, her voice steady despite the tremor in her manicured fingers. "Your Honor, those recordings have been selectively edited by my husband’s legal team to paint a distorted narrative. I was simply instilling discipline and preparing those girls for the realities of polite society. Children require structure, not indulgence."

"Forcing nine-year-old children to kneel on tiled floors and treating them as domestic servants goes far beyond structure, madam; it constitutes textbook abuse," Judge Harrison rebuked sharply. "Furthermore, preliminary financial audits indicate unauthorized transfers from minor trust accounts managed under your oversight. This court finds your petition for emergency custody entirely frivolous and malicious."

The judge picked up his heavy wooden gavel and brought it down with a sharp crack that rattled the microphones. "I hereby dismiss Mrs. Vance’s petition with prejudice. Furthermore, I am granting temporary full custody exclusively to Mr. Julian Vance. A restraining order is issued, mandating that Mrs. Vance maintain a distance of at least five hundred feet from the residence and the minors at all times pending the criminal investigation into financial fraud."

A collective murmur rippled through the courtroom gallery. Elena’s attorneys slumped back in their chairs, realizing the case was entirely unsalvageable. Elena herself stood motionless for a moment, her diamond earrings catching the harsh courtroom lights as she turned her head to lock eyes with Julian across the aisle. There was no apology in her gaze, only a lingering, poisonous promise that she was far from finished.

Julian did not flinch or look away. He held her gaze steadily, feeling a profound sense of closure washing over him. As Elena gathered her designer handbag and swept out of the courtroom with her legal team trailing behind her, Julian let out a long, slow breath. The legal battle was far from over, but the first critical victory belonged to his daughters.
