Chapter 4

The revelation about the security cameras sent Julian rushing down the hallway toward the master control panel located in the walk-in security closet. His heart hammered against his ribs as he punched in the master override code. The glowing monitor flickered to life, displaying a multi-grid view of the entire house. His hands flew across the keyboard, searching for the footage from the kitchen the night before, as well as the historical archives leading up to that evening.
To his mounting horror, Julian discovered that the most recent files from the kitchen sector had been partially corrupted or deleted remotely. Elena possessed administrative privileges that allowed her to alter or wipe cloud backups from her personal tablet. However, she had underestimated Julian’s technical background. Digging deeper into the local hardware cache, he managed to recover the raw, unedited logs from the past six months.
What he saw on the screen made his stomach churn. Hour after hour of footage revealed a systematic campaign of psychological attrition. Elena had not merely been strict; she had engaged in calculated emotional abuse. She forced the twins to memorize exhaustive household chores, penalized minor infractions by locking them in the dark pantry, and systematically isolated them from their school friends and extended family. Worse still, Julian found financial ledgers hidden within the household management software. Elena had been quietly draining the trust accounts established by Julian’s late wife, funneled through shell companies that bore suspicious resemblances to high-end jewelry and asset acquisition firms.
The office door creaked open, and Marcus stepped in, peering over Julian’s shoulder at the glowing screens. The attorney's professional composure cracked, his breath catching in his throat as he watched a particularly disturbing clip of Elena coldly denying the twins dinner because a single dust mote had been found on a mantelpiece.
"My God," Marcus whispered, his hand coming up to cover his mouth. "This isn't just a bitter divorce or a custody dispute. This is systematic abuse and financial fraud on a massive scale. If we present this to a judge, Elena won't just lose custody—she could face criminal charges."

"She thought she was smarter than everyone else," Julian said, his voice terrifyingly calm as he began exporting the raw data onto an encrypted flash drive. "She wanted a war, Marcus? I'm going to give her a war she can't buy her way out of. But we need to move fast before she cleans out the remaining liquid assets."
Marcus nodded grimly, slipping the flash drive into his pocket. "I’ll initiate an emergency freeze on all joint accounts immediately. At the same time, I’ll file a counter-petition for emergency sole custody, citing documented abuse and financial malfeasance. We need to keep the girls entirely away from her reach."
