Chapter 11: The Confrontation in the Study

Eleanor’s voice was dripping with calculated condescension as she leaned back in her high-backed leather chair. She didn't look angry; she looked like a chess grandmaster watching an amateur stumble into an obvious checkmate.

Julian marched straight across the Persian rug, stopping just short of her desk. He slammed both palms down onto the polished wood, leaning forward until his face was only feet from his mother’s.

"You went too far, Mother," Julian growled, his voice vibrating with suppressed fury. "Freezing my personal accounts is one thing, but freezing the medical trust for my newborn daughter in an intensive care unit? That crosses the line from corporate ruthlessness into pure cruelty."

Eleanor didn't flinch. She met his furious glare with icy composure, slowly folding her hands over her patterned pantsuit. "I did not freeze a child’s medical trust, Julian. I simply cut off the financial oxygen supply of an ungrateful son who chose to bite the hand that built his entire existence."

"She is your granddaughter!" Julian shouted, the sound echoing off the high, wood-paneled walls.

"She is an emotional liability born of an inappropriate and disastrous union," Eleanor countered sharply, her voice cutting through his anger like a scalpel. "You were groomed to lead the Sterling Group, not to play domestic martyr in a charity ward. When you walked out of this house yesterday holding that woman, you made your choice. Actions have consequences, Julian."

Alyssa stood quietly to the side, her fingers tapping rhythmically against the edge of the tablet. She offered Julian a small, sympathetic smile that didn't reach her eyes—a silent reminder of her complicity in his downfall.

"You want me back in the boardroom?" Julian asked, his chest heaving as he fought to keep his composure. "You want me to sign off on the Asian acquisition, to play the dutiful corporate heir and pretend my family doesn't exist?"

"I want you to exercise common sense," Eleanor replied coolly. "Sign the transfer documents, publicly sever your relationship with Clara, and return to your proper quarters in this house. The moment the ink dries on the corporate merger, your personal accounts will be restored, and your daughter can have all the golden medical care money can buy."

Julian stared at his mother in utter disbelief. The sheer monstrosity of her proposal hung in the air between them. She was essentially demanding he sell his wife and child for corporate shares.

"And if I refuse?" Julian asked, his voice dropping to a dangerous whisper.

Eleanor picked up her fountain pen again, turning it slowly between her fingers. "Then you will watch your daughter get transferred to a county facility, and you will watch your wife's legal standing crumble under a barrage of corporate litigation that you cannot afford to fight. You are a clever man, Julian. Do the math."
