Chapter 13

The morning sun broke over the mountain range, casting a golden hue across the glass-floor suspension bridge that spanned the lush green forest below. The police tape fluttering in the morning breeze near the broken section of the walkway served as a grim reminder of the violence that had once occurred there, but the valley itself remained serene and untouched, locked in its timeless natural rhythm.

Selena stood at the very edge of the observation platform overlooking the ravine, wearing a simple, sturdy hiking jacket and practical boots. She held her smartphone in her hand, but the screen remained locked and dark. For the first time in years, she felt no compulsion to check her analytics, read through comments, or curate an image for an invisible audience. The digital empire that she and Clara had fought so bitterly over now sat in a legal holding trust managed by Leo, awaiting permanent dissolution. She had instructed him to liquidate the assets, distribute the funds to independent charitable foundations, and permanently deactivate every public-facing profile associated with her name.

As she gazed down at the deep green canopy where she had crawled out of the mud just days ago, she felt a profound sense of closure. The dark, mystical smoke that had once filled her chest had completely dissipated, leaving behind a peaceful, enduring strength that belonged entirely to her own humanity. She had faced betrayal, attempted murder, and the ultimate test of survival, emerging not as a victim seeking endless retribution, but as a woman reborn with absolute clarity.

Leo walked up beside her, carrying a thermos of coffee and handing her a paper cup. "The final transfer papers went through an hour ago," Leo said, his tone casual and relaxed. "Your accounts are officially deleted, the LLC is dissolved, and your name is off the corporate registry for good. You’re officially a ghost to the digital world."

Selena took the cup of coffee, feeling its warmth seep through her fingers. "Good," she murmured, taking a slow sip. "Ghosts don't belong in the spotlight anyway."

She turned away from the suspension bridge, looking down the winding hiking trail that led deeper into the mountain wilderness rather than back toward the city highway. She didn't have a new brand to launch, a product to sell, or an audience to entertain. For the first time in her life, she had something far more valuable: absolute freedom.

"Where are we heading next?" Leo asked, adjusting his backpack with a quiet smile.

Selena took a deep breath of the crisp mountain air, feeling the steady, healthy rhythm of her own heart. "Somewhere quiet," she replied, stepping onto the trail and walking forward into the unwritten future. "Somewhere real."
