Chapter 1: The Muddy Awakening

The impact should have killed her, or at least broken every bone in her frame. Instead, Selena woke up gasping for air that tasted heavily of damp earth and decaying leaves. Her pink off-the-shoulder dress, once vibrant and pristine for the influencer lifestyle she curated so carefully, was now soaked in thick, dark mountain mud. She lay flat on her back beneath the colossal canopy of the ancient green forest, staring up at the distant sliver of daylight where the glass-floor suspension bridge cut across the sky like a jagged scar.
Her mind spun with conflicting memories. She remembered the blinding pain of the fall, the rushing wind, and the sound of her own voice crying out a warning that came too late. But above all, she remembered the face of her closest collaborator, Clara, standing triumphant by the broken glass with a heavy wooden mallet in her hand. Clara had smiled a bright, malicious smile, delivering a final parting insult before watching Selena plunge into the abyss.
A strange sensation pooled in Selena’s chest, cold and heavy, rising steadily into her throat. Before she could process the physical impossibility of surviving a fall from such a height, a thick plume of dark, mystical smoke escaped from between her parted lips. The vapor twisted in the damp air before dissolving into the shadows of the forest floor. Selena blinked her wide, terrified eyes, feeling a sudden surge of cold clarity wash over her system.

"Weak woman... don't worry, I will avenge you," Selena whispered into the silence of the woods, her voice carrying a chilling resonance that did not entirely sound like her own.
Slowly, she pushed herself up from the mud. Her pink heels were gone, swallowed by the quagmire, but her feet felt strangely numb to the sharp rocks and biting cold. She flexed her fingers, noticing that the scratches on her hands were already fading, leaving behind pale skin that looked almost translucent in the filtered light. The betrayal by someone she trusted completely had triggered something fundamental within her. Clara thought she had eliminated her rival for good, silencing her voice and stealing her digital empire in one swift swing of a mallet. But Clara had gravely miscalculated the resilience of a woman pushed past her absolute breaking point. Selena pulled her damp dress around her shoulders and took her first deliberate step deeper into the dark, labyrinthine forest, beginning the long and arduous journey back to civilization to reclaim her life.
