Chapter 12

The flashing red and blue lights of the police cruisers illuminated the hotel lobby through the floor-to-ceiling glass windows, casting long, erratic shadows across the scattered champagne flutes and abandoned designer handbags. Two uniformed officers ascended the stage, their authoritative presence instantly cutting through the lingering chaos in the ballroom. They moved directly toward Clara, who stood frozen and trembling beside the fallen podium, her crimson evening gown stark against the polished white flooring.

Without offering a word of resistance, Clara allowed the handcuffs to be secured around her wrists. Her eyes remained fixed on Selena, who stood at the foot of the stairs watching the arrest with absolute, unflinching calm. As the officers led Clara away down the center aisle past the lingering journalists and whispering investors, Clara let out a low, broken sob—not out of genuine remorse, but from the agonizing realization of total, irrecoverable ruin. Her entire corporate empire, built on a foundation of calculated sabotage and murder, had crumbled into dust within a single hour.

As the sirens faded down the avenue, carrying Clara toward a holding cell where no public relations team could rescue her, the ballroom began to empty out. Reporters packed their camera gear in stunned silence, while industry executives scrambled to distance themselves from any association with the disgraced brand. Selena remained standing quietly near the base of the stage, watching the last of the guests file out into the cool night air.

Leo emerged from the side service corridor, carrying his laptop bag over his shoulder. He walked up to Selena, his expression a mixture of profound relief and lingering awe. "The servers have completely wiped her administrative access," Leo said quietly, checking his screen one last time. "Your primary accounts have been successfully restored to your original credentials, and the legal filings transferring her assets back into your holding trust are already processing automatically."

Selena turned to look at her loyal friend, a genuine, soft expression finally replacing the cold mask she had worn throughout the evening. "Thank you, Leo. You kept your promise when no one else would have believed it was possible."

"You did the hard part, Selena," Leo replied, offering a faint, reassuring smile. "You survived the unthinkable. What happens now?"

Selena looked back toward the empty stage where Clara had tried to steal her life. The digital screens overhead had gone dark, returning the grand room to its quiet, neutral state. The influencer world expected her to step back into the spotlight immediately, to issue a statement, to capitalize on the sensational drama and claim an even larger share of digital attention. But the experience on the suspension bridge, followed by her solitary journey through the dark forest, had fundamentally altered her perspective on what truly mattered.

"Now," Selena said softly, turning toward the exit doors, "we close the chapter on that entire world."
