Chapter 5: The Gathering Storm**

The peace of the seaside cottage did not last long. By morning, every major television network and tabloid in the country had plastered Julian’s face across the front page: *BILLIONAIRE HEIR JILTS BRIDE AT ALTAR FOR SECRET TWINS.*
Julian sat by the fireplace with a cup of black coffee, watching the news ticker. His phone buzzed relentlessly with hundreds of missed calls from board members, lawyers, and Vanessa’s enraged father.
Suddenly, a loud knock rattled the heavy oak front door.
Julian walked over, looking through the peephole. Standing on the porch was Evelyn Vance, flanked by two corporate attorneys in tailored gray suits. Julian unlocked the deadbolt and stepped outside onto the deck, closing the door firmly behind him to keep the children shielded.
"Mother," Julian said coldly.
"You’ve completely lost your mind, Julian," Evelyn spat, her manicured fingers trembling with rage. "The Vance stock dropped twelve percent this morning. The Sterling family is threatening breach of contract lawsuits that could bankrupt our logistics division. You will sign these children over to state custody immediately and issue a public apology."
One of the lawyers stepped forward, extending a thick manila folder. "Mr. Vance, we have drafted a formal statement claiming the children are impostors hired by corporate rivals. A generous private trust can be arranged for them quietly off the record."
Julian didn't even look at the folder. He looked directly into his mother's eyes—eyes that had never once looked at him with unconditional warmth.
"They are my blood, Mother. And more importantly, they are my children."
"If you don't sign, you are stripped of your position as Chief Executive," Evelyn threatened, stepping closer. "We will freeze your accounts, revoke your access to the family trust, and tie you up in court until you don't have a penny left to feed them."

Julian smiled faintly—a calm, dangerous smile. "Take the money. Take the titles. Take every last square foot of the Vance estate. But if you come near my children again, I will release the complete financial audit of your offshore shell companies to the federal authorities. Have a safe drive back to the city, Mother."
